Why is Zapier so expensive: each successful action is a task

Zapier is expensive for busy accounts because it bills per task, and a task is any successful action that runs in Zapier. A Zap, Zapier's word for one automated workflow, with three actions uses three tasks every run, so volume multiplies the bill. As read on October 30, 2026, 10,000 tasks cost $193.50 a month on Zapier Professional, billed monthly.

Triggers never use tasks, and neither do Filter or Paths steps. Take a Zap where a form response arrives, a row is added to a spreadsheet, a CRM contact is created and a team message is posted: that is 3 tasks per run.

Some steps cost more than one task. Zapier's help center lists AI by Zapier at 1x, 3x or 5x depending on the model tier, Lead Router at 5 tasks per lead routed and Zapier MCP at 2 tasks per successful tool call.

Tier jumps as volume grows

Zapier prices Professional by task tier. Zapier says the higher the task tier, the lower the cost per task, but each step up still raises the monthly bill.

Team seats and pay-per-task

Free and Professional plans are for one user. Team includes up to 25 users, shared Zaps and folders, shared app connections, SAML SSO and priority support, and starts at $103.50 a month for 2,000 tasks, billed monthly, or $69 a month billed yearly. At 10,000 tasks Team is $253.50 billed monthly.

Pay-per-task billing, Zapier says, is charged at a higher per-task rate than your base subscription tasks. Zapier's help article says it is on by default for accounts that joined after January 2024, and it gives no public dollar rate; the rate shows in your Billing settings.
